Medications and therapies remain to be the mainstays when it comes to relieving symptoms of panic and related disorders. However, this is not to say that treatment doesn’t exist outside these two. Alternative and complementary medicine provides excellent anxiety remedies, as well. Here are some of your options:
{St. John’s Wort}
St. John’s wort, is probably, the most studied and most researched herb that is used in treatment of anxiety disorder symptoms. This plant, which is native to China, India, North America, and Europe, have been researched and used primarily for treatment of depression although recently, it has been considered for anxiety attacks and other anxiety disorders as well. So far, 30 independent studies have researched on the properties of St. John’s worth that could be useful in treatment of anxiety disorder and related disorders. A number of studies have shown that St. John’s Wort is an effective treatment for mild forms of depression.
Extreme care should be exercised when using St. John’s wort, however, since it could one, interfere with prescription drugs, and two, it could be toxic if used in high amounts. Too much St. John’s wort in the body could lead to serotonin syndrome, a condition brought about by excess production of serotonin in the brain. {Note}: Serotonin is a brain neurotransmitter that is instrumental in sending brain impulse from one neuron to another. Further, overuse of this herb could also lead to eye damage.
To avoid compromising your body, consult with your doctor when considering the use of St. John’s wort.
{SAM-e}
Short for S-adenosylmethionine, SAM-e is a naturally occurring cell in plants and animals that have been shown to help with the symptoms of different mood disorders. Theoretically, SAM-e treatment attempts to resolve the deficiency of SAM-e in the bodies of people dealing with mood disorders. While proven to be effective in reliving symptoms of mood disorders, researchers are doubtful whether current data is representative of the actual results of SAM-e use.
Again, caution must be exercised when using SAM-e. Although not a drug, it definitely works like one inside body. Side effects of taking SAM-e could include rising serotonin levels in the brain and drug interaction.
{Omega-3 Fatty Acids}
It has long been argued that Omega-3 fatty acids which are found in high quantities in coldwater fish and some types of seeds can chase away clinical depression and anxiety disorders like anxiety disorder. Evidence suggests that Omega-3 fatty acids can have properties capable of preventing both clinical and manic depression, and other mood disorders. The best thing about these oils? Not only are these available in natural forms – you can get it from consuming plenty of caviar, mackerel, sardines, salmon, flaxseed, and walnuts or in capsule form – this actually have no unwanted effects in the body.
{Relaxation}
By the looks of it, people dealing with anxiety disorders are less capable of relaxing than their perfectly healthy counterparts. Relaxation techniques teach patients to control their attacks by staying calm. Some techniques that do these as well as help improved mood and concentration are meditation, breathing exercises, guided imagery, yoga.
There are several forms of anxiety remedies. Some are conventional, others stem out from alternative medicine. Talk to your doctor now and see which could work for you.
